The most important thing you can do is tend to the fire. Don’t spend all your daylight warding off dangers or hastily gathering up tribes. Those things will happen on their own when the flames are burning bright. Gather up your kindling – leaves, poems, sorrows, ideals, and other combustible things – and use them to keep the hearth aglow. Accept the gifts bestowed by grace and ancient old trees; spend your time attending to them, giving them breath, to keep the flames alive. The world may keep on spinning, the stars may keep on shining, men may keep on fighting – but the most important thing that you can do is keep tending to the fire.
